Ubuntu has come up with a concept of a next generation smartphone, Ubuntu Edge, that has many exciting features including dual-booting Ubuntu and Android. Ubuntu has been one of the biggest communities for so long, widely know for their linux OS, Ubuntu. But this year in february, they unveiled Ubuntu for Phone which was taken very well by the critics. They have been also working on an advanced smartphone, Ubuntu Edge which will be a limited edition phone, available for only the contributors of this project. Ubuntu expects $32million for this project.
Ubuntu Edge
Ubuntu Edge is a concept for the most advanced and innovative smartphone, that allows you to have all the Mobile experience and Desktop Power in one device. Yes, You can connect this device to a monitor and convert it into a desktop computer. That is commendable. Ubuntu stats that at the heart of this concept is convergence. A prototype design of this smartphone has been prepared and the phone looks fantastic.
Features
Ubuntu edge will have 4.5 inch screen with a sapphire crystal protection on it so that it’s impossible to scratch the screen. The company won’t only be focusing on the higher resolution but also on the colors, brightness and clarity. The 4.5 inch size will fit in your hands very well. The body will be made of textured amorphous metal.
Ubuntu Edge as stated before supports not only the mobile version of Ubuntu OS but also supports the powerful desktop version of Ubuntu OS. And they have decided to use great hardware specs for this phone which are exceptional. When I first read the specs I totally wanted this phone right now. The phone is said to sport a multi-core processor, with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.  The battery will use silicon-anode technology, so we can squeeze more energy into the same dimensions.
With those specs, I have no doubt you can easily convert your phone into a desktop PC.
The phone also has amazing software capabilities. The most attractive software feature of this phone that makes sense the most to me is its ability to dual-boot both Ubuntu and Android. You don’t have to lose your favorite Android apps and you still get the amazing ubuntu OS that can be converted into a Desktop OS whenever you want.
Ubuntu OS has been appreciated by the critics log back when it was first introduced. It looks promising with all the great easy to use features and gestures. With Ubuntu Edge you can have this same experience on your monitor.
Yes, it’s the full Ubuntu desktop OS used by millions on a daily basis — and it runs directly from the phone, so you’ll be able to move seamlessly from one environment to the other with no file syncing or transfers required.
